How to Start a Running Program

January 1, 2012

I often talk about the fact that running helped me regain my identity. It was the first thing I did, that I mastered, that depended solely on my will and tenacity. Running gave me a sense of accomplishment.

At the start of the new year, you, too, may be looking to become the person you’ve always longed to be. Perhaps running will do for you what it did for me.

*Begin running very slowly.
*Set the treadmill speed at 4.0 (or lower).
*Run for 10 minutes the first day, then bring it up 5 minutes each day.
*Run three times a week.
*When you can run 30 minutes comfortably, start adjusting the speed by intervals of .1
*Build up to 5.0.
*When you can run at 5.0 comfortably, build the time up to 1 hour.
*Remember small intervals over a steady period of time.
*Be consistent.

This is a lifestyle. You need to share the fun for you to enjoy lasting change.

It all starts with one stumble forward. One 10 minute session you are convinced your grandmother could do. May the force be with you.
