Writing
Tiny, Beautiful Things
June 12, 2016
My friend Janet, who’s a librarian in Connecticut, told me I had to read this book.
She said that it reminded her of me, of the kind of stuff I say to her when her life is a shit show. I seriously WISH I wrote like this. Or that I was as clear, and funny, and compassionate, and ON TARGET with advice as this woman is. And frankly, I wish it had been around when I was being such a dumbass. Maybe it would have slapped me awake.
You may recognize Cheryl Strayed. She’s the “overnight success” who wrote Wild, the book that was turned into a film starring Reese Witherspoon. This book, however, is much better than Wild. (If you’re contemplating writing a memoir but worry you don’t have the chops, check out how simple this structure is. Super easy to replicate.)
Anyway. If you resonate with my message. If you’re not thoroughly offended by my potty mouth. If you like raw honesty, even when it seems politically incorrect, you will ADORE this book. It will make you laugh, and cry like a bitch.
Maybe it will inspire you to stop the madness and reach out for a little help.
Consider this, my love, a gift from me.
