While In Vermont
September 18, 2016
So, Walt and I caught a flight to Boston on Friday from Cork, Ireland. We were on a quick mission: to witness one of our sons get married.
The wedding was the perfect anti-wedding, sans fancy attire, rented ballroom, DJ, team of photographers, and towering cake. Instead, we enjoyed a simple ceremony out in the wooded amphitheater behind the school where Zak teaches, a potluck dinner, field flowers, and a fine assortment of in-laws and outlaws and step-parents. (I’m pretty sure the traditional nuclear family is dead, BTW.)
This is Zak and his lovely bride Sarah. Of course no picture would be complete without Walt.
While here, we did some of our favorite things.
We found a wooded trail and went for an early morning run (Still on Irish time, which has us five hours ahead, our eyes snapped open at about 4 in the morning. It can be a real bear to wait for the sun to come up, let me tell you.) This is a grab shot of us at Equinox Pond. I’d say it was a nice little find.
Manchester, VT still has a wonderful independent bookshop. Book stores to us are like truffles to a hog. We’d happily root around in the aisles all day if we could get away with it.
Limiting myself to only one book, this is the one I chose.
I’ll let you know what I think. If you haven’t seen Angela Duckworth’s Ted Talk on this subject, click HERE. It’s terrific.
It’s Sunday morning as I write. We’re packing up and heading to a little diner in the next town over for breakfast. Then we’re off to Boston, where we’ll catch our flight home. Just in time to put the finishing touches on the first ever Book Yourself Solid International event that begins on Wednesday. We’ve got folks coming from all over the world, which we’re pretty excited about.
The weekend has been a whirlwind to say the least.
