Here's what I learned TOTALLY by accident. Personal story sells.

Writing

Healthy as F*ck

April 27, 2023

Oonagh Duncan, author of Healthy as F*ck, has a potty mouth. It’s one of the reasons we hit it off straight away. It’s one of the reasons her people are drawn to her like Spandex to a thigh. They’ve tried to get fit and loose weight before. They’re not into cheery affirmations.  They want a well-placed kick in the butt and for someone to tell it like it is, so they can drop a few pants sizes.

The choice to use expletives, like f*ck, in a book will give most authors pause. Sure, Barnes and Nobel will devote entire walls to  Go the F**k to Sleep, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, and insert-about-a-million-other-titles, but the risk is real.  Oonagh will attest to this.

In our interview, she talks about that choice, how it played out in the subsequent marketing of her traditionally published book, and the success she’s had because of it, including filling her paid programs with folks who dig her style. Remember, we don’t want to appeal to the masses when we write a positioning book, we want to speak the language of those we’re placed on this earth to serve.

How much more you can you be in the pages of your book? That’s the question you should be asking.

BTW, if you’re easily offended by expletives, like f*ck, you’re going to want to skip the next 28 minutes. (I can’t believe I’m using a trigger warning :).)
