Oh, this is an excellent excuse for not writing a book for your business in that, sometimes, it’s true. Quite possibly, it’s not the right time for you given the much bigger fish you need to fry first. (Think: “I don’t have a website or a client yet” all the way to, “I’ve got 500 people asking me for a course, so I think I should create that first.”)
With the exception of those writing a legacy book–and I get into what I mean by that here– I’ll often discourage folks from investing the time, energy, and resources into writing a book for their business if they can’t claim at least three of the following:
- My business is established
- I know who I serve and what I do for them
- I have products and services that align with the book I wish to write
- I have a framework for fixing a very particular problem
- I want a low barrier to entry product that will bring more right-fit clients into my world so they can purchase a higher ticket offering or engage me in some way
- I need a gateway product that establishes credibility and creates good leads.
